Redhill gives children lots of chances for regular exercise and our PE programme forms a core part of the way in which we help children learn how to lead a healthy lifestyle as well as other skills, i.e. physical literacy, teamwork, resilience.

The weekly timetable enables pupils to benefit from sports and PE sessions. As a minimum, every week pupils from Reception to Year 6 receive over three hours of physical activity, e.g. one discrete PE session, one swimming lesson at the local pool or timetabled sport session plus a specialist coaching session with an external provider, e.g. football with a local academy or tennis with a Level 4 LTA coach.

Redhill children enter local and regional competitions, take part in competitive fixtures and benefit from special visits and activities. There are numerous benefits to playing competitively and building resilience is a core aim.

A few of the core aims of our provision for physical activity and sport are:

‘Sport for All’ philosophy:

  • Ensure Redhill children are highly engaged in a range of well-structured physical activities.

High levels of physical literacy:

  • We ensure Redhill children have engaging and well-planned opportunities to develop and master core skills and to transfer them across a range of disciplines.

Healthy body and mind:

  • Redhill children have high levels of physical and mental health. They are physically fit, understand how exercise can enhance their mental health and begin their journey towards a lifelong love of keeping fit.

The success criteria for this aspect of provision are:

  • A primary target of raising pupil engagement and progress through a sport for all culture is embedded.
  • Children are enjoying being active and understand what it takes to lead a healthy lifestyle.
  • The general level of children’s fitness and resilience has increased.
  • Children are developing a broader and deeper range of transferable skills.
  • More avenues for competitive sport have been created with more fixtures planned.
  • Redhill has local connections that have opened pathways for some of our children to partake in elite level sport.
