At Redhill we pride ourselves on providing excellent tailored provision for children with Additional Learning Needs (ALN). We believe that every child deserves an education that meets their unique needs, and we are committed to ensuring that every child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Our approach is to implement waves of provision designed to cater to the diverse needs of children with ALN. We understand that each child is an individual, with their own strengths and challenges, and our goal is to provide them with the support and resources they need to succeed. By implementing a graduated approach to support pupils, involving a cycle of assess, plan, do, and review, it enables teachers to identify and respond to pupils’ needs in a timely and effective manner. The approach is flexible and responsive to the individual needs of the pupil.
Redhill’s Intervention Model
Universal: Quality First Teaching
In our mainstream classrooms, our dedicated and highly skilled teachers deliver high-quality, inclusive education to all students. We understand that every child is different, and our teachers use a range of teaching strategies to accommodate different learning styles and abilities. They also know each child very well and build strong connections with them which engenders a feeling of trust and self-worth for all pupils. Through differentiated instruction, individual attention in small classes and personalised learning, we ensure that every child receives the support they need to reach their full potential.
Targeted: Booster Interventions
For children who require additional support, we offer booster interventions delivered by our experienced team of educators. These interventions are designed to address specific areas of need, such as literacy, numeracy, or social skills. They are specific, additional and time-limited interventions provided for some children who need help to accelerate their progress to enable them to work at or above age-related expectations. Often targeted at a group of pupils with similar needs in small group or one-on-one sessions.
Specialist: Enhanced Support
In some cases, children may require more intensive and individualised support from a suitably qualified member of the Redhill team as it is necessary to provide highly tailored intervention to accelerate progress or enable children to achieve their potential. Together, we develop personalised learning plans and provide ongoing support to help children overcome barriers to learning and achieve agreed goals. This involves listening to the child, input from their teachers and dialogue with parents. It may also include working with external specialists such as speech therapists and educational psychologists.
Provision Mapping is used to capture targeted and specialist interventions that will be ‘additional to’ and ‘different from’ the usual curriculum.
Here’s what makes our ALN Provision excellent:
- Tailored Support: We recognize that no two children with ALN are the same. Our team takes a person-centred approach to understanding each child’s specific needs, challenges, and strengths. This allows us to develop individual education plans that cater to their unique requirements, ensuring they receive the targeted support they need to progress.
- High-Quality Teaching: Our teachers are experts in their field, trained to effectively deliver tailored lessons that engage and inspire our pupils. They use evidence-based instructional strategies and innovative teaching methods to create an inclusive and stimulating learning environment that encourages participation, curiosity, and growth.
- Collaborative Approach: We believe that collaboration is key to providing excellent ALN support. Our team works closely with parents/carers, outside agencies, and the community to ensure that our pupils receive a holistic support system. We value input from all stakeholders and actively engage in regular communication to ensure everyone is involved in the child’s progress.
- Inclusive Environment: At Redhill we are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where every child feels valued and supported. We celebrate diversity and promote respect, understanding, and acceptance amongst our pupils, fostering a sense of belonging to promote positive relationships and emotional well-being.
- Continuous Professional Development: We understand the importance of staying up to date with the latest research and best practices in ALN education. Our staff undergo regular professional development to enhance their skills and knowledge, ensuring they are equipped to provide the highest quality support to our primary aged pupils.
