5 Areas of Learning

The Redhill ‘Education for Life’ is framed within five Areas of Learning: Mind, Body, Heart, Earth and Futures. Each area can function independently and in unison. They neatly dovetail to the Montessori Philosophy areas of learning, which offer children the richest and strongest of foundation.
Together, they create a holistic offering that enables children to live their lives fully right now whilst also preparing them for an ever-evolving future. The areas also enable our team to pursue their passions, explore new projects, innovate and bring all this to bear in the educational experiences they curate.
Redhill children are knowledgeable and have the autonomy to drive their own learning journey. They partake in consistent high-quality opportunities to master literacy, numeracy and scientific skills. Aptitudes such as critical thinking, resilience, collaboration, problem solving, and communication skills are continually honed. They have a passion for learning and are motivated by a strong sense they are making progress. Academic rigour is an accepted norm and children know the secret to success is listening to constructive feedback. Progress involves identifying, accepting and learning from mistakes.
Redhill children are physically fit and know how to be healthy. There is a ‘Sport for All’ philosophy underpinning provision with a focus on development of core skills transferable to a range of sporting disciplines. Having regular opportunities to compete and collaborate is vital to our children’s physical and social development. They are modest in victory and learn lessons when they lose. Equally, we see exercise as a means to improve children’s mental health and mindset. A Redhill child understands when they train their body, they train their mind. It is a powerful combination.
Redhill, children are kind, decent and honest. Teachers educate the whole child by immersing them in activities that hone their inherent human aptitudes such as emotional intelligence, empathy, kindness, teamwork and resilience. Emotional intelligence is equally important as academic performance. Children know the importance of understanding and sharing their feelings as well as being able to think deeply and critically. Creative, ethical and character-based activities enable children to uncover and explore their talents and abilities. The expressive arts are prioritised – they nourish each child’s soul and gives them a human skillset that is future-proof.
Redhill children thrive in nature and are engaged in outdoor education. Our tranquil grounds and forest area help children enhance core skills, develop a sense of wonder and satisfy their innate need to be one with natural surroundings. Children understand we must live in harmony with nature and are engaged in conservation projects. They are connected to their local community and wider World striving to be positive contributors. They use their voice for positive change and know it is one of our most powerful tools. Civic duty and citizenship are valued – our children understand that people gain true joy from doing good and organising charitable activities.
Redhill children have the abilities and aptitudes to actively shape the future. Teachers embrace the new and different ways children learn and to prepare children for a world of increasing complexity. No child is pigeonholed by their natural talents, interests or gender. Anyone can engage in scientific thinking, find joy in engineering projects and recognise that technological developments are driven by human ingenuity. For a revolution of the heart, skills such as problem-solving, teamwork and creativity are perennial.
