We are pleased to share the findings of our recent Estyn inspection, which recognises the school as a warm, inclusive and ambitious learning community in which pupils thrive academically and personally.
The report highlights pupils’ happiness, confidence and strong progress, noting that children feel safe, secure and valued within a caring and respectful environment. Inspectors commented positively on the quality of relationships across the school and the strong sense of community that underpins daily life at Redhill.
A clear vision for Education for Life
Since his appointment in 2021, Headteacher Adrian Thomas has led the school with a clear and purposeful vision of Education for Life. This approach places importance on academic learning, wellbeing, character and pupils’ understanding of the wider world.
Inspectors recognised the influence of this vision across teaching, the curriculum and enrichment, as well as in the day to day experiences of pupils. Leadership was described as ambitious, reflective and firmly focused on improvement, supported by a committed and collaborative staff team.

By learning through meaningful questions and practical experiences, inside and beyond the classroom, Redhill pupils remain highly engaged and make excellent progress from their individual starting points.

An enquiry based curriculum rooted in the environment
Estyn highlighted the strength of the school’s enquiry based curriculum, which encourages pupils to explore meaningful questions through practical learning and regular use of the outdoor environment. Learning takes place both within the classroom and beyond it, helping pupils to make connections between subjects and develop an understanding of environmental and social issues.
Inspectors noted that this approach supports high levels of engagement and curiosity while also contributing to strong outcomes in reading, writing, mathematics and oracy. Pupils are confident communicators who apply their learning thoughtfully across the curriculum.
Strong teaching and pupil progress
Teaching across the school was described as well structured, engaging and language rich. Inspectors praised teachers’ use of questioning and verbal feedback to deepen pupils’ understanding, as well as the opportunities pupils have to work independently, collaborate and solve problems.
As a result, most pupils make strong progress from their individual starting points and develop secure academic foundations alongside confidence and pride in their learning.
A caring community with high standards
The report also highlights pupils’ positive attitudes to learning, good behaviour and strong relationships with staff and peers. Wellbeing and personal development are embedded in daily school life, with pupils demonstrating empathy, maturity and emotional awareness.
Safeguarding arrangements were found to be secure, and the school meets all Independent School Standards in full.

Looking ahead
The inspection made one recommendation, to continue embedding the priorities already identified in the school development plan. This reflects the school’s positive direction and its commitment to continuous improvement.
The report affirms Redhill Preparatory School as a place where pupils are supported, challenged and encouraged to grow, both academically and personally, within a caring and purposeful learning environment.
